RENDELLS established in 1816 is a highly respected firm of Devon based Chartered Surveyors, Auctioneers, Valuers and Land and Estate Agents. In the 1970's the firm acquired "The Old Brewery" at Stonepark, Ashburton and quickly converted it to an auction room where today they conduct each month a two day auction on a Thursday and Friday of between 1,500 and 2,000 lots of antiques and selected items.

SOMETHING TO SELL?
First contact us by telephone, fax or email or just call in to see a valuer who will advise you as to whether a free, no obligation visit to your house will be necessary or, if you wish, you may deliver items to the sale room on one of the appointed entry weeks. A skilled and experienced valuer will assess your items, suggest a guide price and reserve - the reserve is the minimum price at which the auctioneer will sell, subject to a 10% discretion.
The vendor pays a commission only when an item is sold. We offer a competitive rate, per item, of 15% on the first £500 and 10% thereafter, plus VAT at the current rate. An insurance charge of 1% plus VAT is also paid whilst items are in our possession. There is a minimum commission of £3 per lot. Modest reductions may be made for large estates and high value items. Where the auctioneers feel that an item is of particular importance or would benefit from a photograph in the catalogue and in advertisements, a small additional charge is made. Rendells offer one of the promptest payments in the Country with a statement of account and a cheque in settlement posted to you normally within seven days of the auction. The Buyer pays a premium of 15% plus VAT on the hammer price of all lots. There is a fee for using Credit Cards of 2% plus VAT. Any lot purchased via ATG Media (www.the-saleroom.com) will be subject to ATG Media (www.the-saleroom.com) terms and will be subject to an additional 3% commission charge plus V.A.T on the hammer price.
For the larger parcels or items, the auctioneers can recommend a number of carefully vetted contractors who can collect or deliver your goods to and from the auction rooms.
A separate charge is made for this service.
We arrange house clearances when a member of staff will normally attend with the haulier.
BUYING AT AUCTION
The catalogues are available one week prior to the auction, so if you are looking for one specific item or wish to furnish your entire house, why not order a catalogue and come along to one of the viewing days, normally Tuesday (10.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m.) or Wednesday (10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.) before the auction. Rendells' staff will be pleased to answer any query you may have, whether it be for further information on a particular lot or, if it is your first visit to an auction, will explain to you how it all works.
Should you be unable to visit the sale room, we will be pleased to provide a photograph and a condition report on any lot, then send it to you either by email or post anywhere in the world. We accept written absentee bids and, if items are of a sufficient value, we will be happy to receive telephone bids.

Rendells offer extensive lists of valuations and services whether it be for insurance, probate, taxation or family division. Items entered for auction are carefully catalogued and advertised locally and nationally. The catalogue is published on the Internet on our own website and is linked from a number of other sites including Antiques Trade Gazette, catmaker.co.uk and ukauctioneers.com. Rendells hold an extensive mailing list and our catalogues are distributed to a large number of private collectors, dealers and galleries. An annual subscription is available.
DIRECTIONS AND PARKING
Our premises, with ample parking, which are located on the outskirts of Ashburton, a short distance from the Pear Tree Junction on the A38, The Devon Expressway connects with the M5 at Exeter, and are convenient for the buyers from wherever they are travelling.
