Lot 718
A Biographical Memoir of the Life of Joseph Metford (1776-1863 of Glastonbury), from the years 1776-1802 (with Letters), Collected and Added by his son Samuel Metford, Halesleigh, Bridgewater 19th of 12th Month 1863, and a continuation by his younger daughter Eleanor: a 19th Century Quaker's leather bound extensive hand written journal in six parts with twenty seven transcribed letters to and from Mr Metford, also 'Trans Atlantic' Travels 1839 from Bristol to New Jersey, encompassing New York, Philadelphia including the state prison, Baltimore, Montreal, New Haven including the State Insane Asylum, and Boston. Also included is a weatherproof canvas case containing shawls, a black silk dress and bonnet made by Eleanor after her mother's original, and Eleanor's marriage certificate. Joseph Metford frequented Claverham Meeting House, and was succeeded by his son Samuel, a silhouette artist
